rsz_212368910_e4a9b20030_b.jpgDamn it, Arcade Fire, why do you keep teasing us?
Beginning at the end of this month (in support of their soon-to-be-released new album, Neon Bible) the band is playing five consecutive nights in three big cities — and not one of them comes from the Iroquois word for “place where trees stand in the water” (that is, they’re starting in London, then in Montreal, and ending in New York). Tickets for all fifteen shows disappeared in minutes, and, due to a strict non-transferable ticket policy (at least for the New York shows), anyone who doesn’t have a ticket already for the shows would seem to be totally out of luck.
And today, the Ottawa Citizen is reporting that the band will be playing a surprise concert this Friday night at Canterbury High School in Ottawa. Guitarist and percussionist Richard Reed Parry is a graduate of the school’s literary arts program, and proceeds are going to the Canterbury Arts Centre Development Association (or CACDA), which raises arts funding for the school. Those looking to sneak over to Ottawa for the weekend are also totally out of luck; not only are tickets almost all sold out, but they can only be purchased by “students, grads and CACDA members” (though they are being sold during the school’s lunch hour, which is totally cute).
It’s all very sweet and cool and nice, but we can’t help but feel a little left out over here in Toronto. So that’s why we totally flipped out this morning when we read the best sentence we’ve seen all week on Brooklyn Vegan: that “the band is also rumored to be playing at least one more impromptu show in Canada.” Three letters: OMG. We’re totally in Canada, and we’re long overdue for our next Fire fix.
Pretty pretty please come to Toronto, Arcade Fire. From what we’ve heard of the new album so far (you can find the four leaked tracks so far on a whole bunch of music blogs), we’re really, really excited. Hell, you could probably charge $50 a ticket and we’d all still turn out our pockets. Please?
